Cyber School

Today in class we wrote an essay reflecting cyber school.
Cyber School
        Cyber school is unlike anything most of us have done before. It's challenging and easy at times, but it is also a weird thing to do. Coronavirus has taken over our world and we are basically on shut down. Cyber school has brought us many challenges to face and we have overcame obstacles as a student body.

          We need to be responsible. Since we are not sitting in a classroom, with a teacher, for 55 minutes, we have to take the responsibility of learning on our own. I have found that this is especially hard in classes like math because of the hard material we are learning. learning new things by yourself is a challenge because you can be doing it totally wrong. While at home, we still need a schedule. We need to be ready in the morning to enter our attendance, and be ready at certain times to take tests and meet on FaceTime apps.

          It's harder for teachers. Teachers barely have the amount of materials that they did at school. Teachers have to come up with lessons related to what we would do in class and they must have it between 30-45 minutes. Since they don't have a whiteboard to teach us certain things, it's confusing for some students what we are learning. For most things, teachers need to be present during your class so they can answer questions and interact with the student that may be going through some challenges.

          Overall, cyber school has made us face several obstacles and challenges throughout the few weeks and we have overcame and we are still overcoming these challenges everyday. we will get through this together as a student body. we need to remember the reason why we are out of school, and not think of this as a vacation, but more of a medical emergency break. We will get through this and become stronger in the end.

THE PLAGUEEE

Today, we talked about the plague vs. the corona virus.

The plague and the corona virus are two different sicknesses but they both have their similarities and differences. Coronavirus is still considered new to us so we don't have much opinions on it and real facts to state. The plague killed an estimated 75,000-100,000 people. Right now, the coronavirus has killed about 21,000 people. Coronavirus has not killed many people but it is still just the beginning. Also, the plague hit and there was a lack of practicing religion. This can be true to us because we are not allowed to attend church services. Although, now we have the technology to watch livestream church services. The plague was an epidemic while the coronavirus has spread across the world, meaning its a pandemic. Some of the symptoms of the plague include fever, coughing, and sore throats which are the main symptoms of the coronavirus. The plague and the coronavirus are two completely different viruses but they are very similar in many different ways.

Biographies

Today we wrote three biographies about,

Phillip II-

Phillip II was the king of the kingdom of Macedon. He was a member of the Agreed dynasty and he was the father of Alexander The Great. He was the youngest son of King Amyntas III and Eurydice I. When Phillip became the leader of Macedon, he used skilled military and diplomatic tactics to improve his country and their territory, and ended up almost dominating all of the neighboring greek city states. Phillip was murdered in October 336 B.C. at the age of 46.


                                                 Alexander The Great

Alexander The Great was born in Macedonia on July 20, 356 B.C. to parents, King Phillip II and Queen Olympia. In 343 B.C. king Phillip hired a tutor for Alexander to teach him math, horsemanship, and archery. Eventually, Aristotle was hired to teach him. By 20, Alexander overthrew his dad after his death and at age 30 he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient nation. Alexander overthrew Darius III and conquered his empire entirely. Alexander the Great changed the course of history and was one of the greatest military generals.

Darius III was born in 336 B.C. which is when he began his reign. Darius took the throne at age 43 after the death of Artaxerxes III. Darius was the last king of the Persian Empire. Alexander the Great defeated Darius and the Persians in 334 B.C. Alexander wanted to capture him alive but found him dying on a wagon. Alexander took over Persia after Darius' death and became the official leader

Alexander and Bucephulus

Today, we took notes on the relationship between Alexander and Bucephulus.

  • only Alexander was allowed to ride him
  • Alexander rode Bucephulus into every battle from the conquest of Greek city-states to India.
  • synchronized the hour of their deaths 
  • Alexander could manage the horse better than other people
  • Alexander realized that Bucephulus was scared of his own shadow
  • when the horse had died, Alexander named the city, Bucephala after him
  • when Bucephulus was wounded, he wouldn't allow Alexander to mount any other horse during the battle
  • developed a deep bond of love and compassion
  • Bought Bucephulus for 13 talents (huge amount fo money)
  • Bucephelus was considered too wild and unmanageable for anyone to buy, until Alexander camel along

Week 1 last day

Today is the last day of week one with cyber days. This week has been an adjusting week as we have moved school from waking up at 630 everyday to sleeping in, and getting work done faster. Cyber days have not caused much stress, but I'm not sure how this will play out as decisions are made about school for the rest of the year. I have had to take two quizzes which weren't too bad and hopefully I won't have to take many more. Today I have the most work to do and I want to finish fast so I have the rest of the day to myself. I still need to bring a few grades up which i have been doing well for the last week and so hopefully my hard work will pay off in the end. Overall, cyberdays are not bad but I would rather be in school, seeing my friends and teacher, and finishing out my freshman year in a classroom.

Cyber day #3

Today we watched a video and answered a question.
Explain why you think Socrates, and Sophists like Protagoras, would start questioning traditional beliefs at this particular point in history.

Socrates, and sophists like Protagoras, would start questioning traditional beliefs because the economy of Athens is only getting worse. With the plague, people were dying everyday and nothing could really be done to stop the plague. It had to run its course throughout Athens before anything could be done. Then, when Pericles died, people didn't know how to act since many people wanted to be the main person of power. People began to question their moral beliefs and whether what they were believing in was right and correct. After these events, people probably thought that the way they were living was not right and began to question their lives.

Today, we watched a video and explained how Athens' plan unfolded. The plan of Athens' unfolded when cargo was brought overseas which also brought over the plague. The plague killed and diseased many people. Not much could be done. The city relied on potions in attempt to kill the disease. Then, Pericles sadly died in 429 B.C. He planned to make Athens' the greatest but he miscalculated his plan. It was found that Pericles was one of the main protectors of safety and many things had changed dramatically since he had died.

1st Day of Cyber School

Today we read from the book and answered a few questions...

1.
Pericles was a wise statesman who ran Athens during most of its golden age. Pericles was a skillful politician that dominated Athens in 461-429 B.C. His goals were to strengthen Athenian government, hold and strengthen the empire, and to glorify Athens.

2.
A direct democracy is run by the citizens, without the representatives. Male citizens established all the important government policies that affected the polis.

3.
The delian league was a league of all the different parts of Athens. Pericles used the money from it to make the navy in Athens stronger than any other. The delian league was like an alliance formed by the many people.

Today in class, Mr. Shick was not in class again so we watched thee second part of thee ancient Greece video.
Some facts are:
  • A trireme was a very narrow, fast, sleek weapon/ship that was used as a battering ram
  • Persians set out for Greece
  • Greeks would come to the stream to discover their futures
  • Themistocles was ostracized for his boats
  • Pericles changed Athens forever
  • Pericles was leader of Athens at its highest point
We didn't finish the video entirely but we got through most of it since no one had a charged MacBook Pro.

Sub Work

Today in class, Mr. Schick was not there. We had a sub and had to watch a video on Ancient Greece. It didn't go too well since no one had a MacBook Pro to hook it up to the board. Instead we tried starting the video at the same exact time which worked for the most part and we took individual notes on the video. Most of it was about Cleisthenes and how he came about being one of the most powerful people in Ancient Greece. The video was almost an hour long so it took up most of the class and no one really finished.

POP QUIZ

Today in class, we took a surprise pop quiz. At the start of class we had David go over all the notes that we took and all the things on the Gods and Goddesses. Then, Mr. Schick gave us a pop quiz and we had questions on it like who was the goddess of strategy and war and who said "The unexamined life is not worth living," which was the quote of socrates. I think I made a 90 but I'm not entirely sure. I didn't think it was too hard but it still gave me anxiety because I cannot do bad on any other assignments we have and by taking this my grade could either plummet even more than it is or go up maybe a little.

Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle

Today in class, we took more notes on Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Socrates was a very influential person who came up with the socratic method which is asking many questions. He was put to death for impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens. He was sentenced to death and was forced to drink hemlock even though many people were against putting him to death. Plato was a student of socrates and Aristotle was a student of Plato at the academy. He helped foster the idea of Athens as an intellectual destination.

ZEUS

Today in class, we took more notes on the greek gods and goddesses. Some interesting facts I found were that kids started training at the age of 7 for war. This helped to warriors to have a ruthless infantry. Another fact is that thee Athens had a trireme which was a ship that had about 180 people on three levels rowing the boat. This was one of the fastest ships in this time and it was also used as a battering ram. Also, a phalanx was a dense grouping of warriors in war. This was a good strategy for war because it helped them be efficient in war and killing the opposing team.

Gods and Goddesses

Today in class, we took notes and took time to look at the remainder of the powerpoint which is going to be on the part two test. This part is all about the greek gods and goddesses. We are learning about gods like; Zeus, Poseidon, and Aphrodite. I remember learning this in fourth grade and did a project on Poseidon, the god of water. I also remember watching Percy Jackson which were books and movies all about mythology and a story of the Gods and Goddesses and their sons and daughters. I am excited for this unit because I think ill enjoy learning about these people and where and how they came about.
