Letter to my Future Self

Dear Reagan,
As I reflect upon my freshman year, I can only say this it has been interesting and tough to get through. Many challenges have occurred with this past school year, but nothing as challenging and scary as the Coronavirus. I have learned many new things that have helped me get through and become a better person. With the Coronavirus, my life has changed tremendously and it has effected me and my peers entirely. In the near future, I hope to be able to see a brighter side to this pandemic. I feel as if even though this virus has brought on many diverse challenges, that we as a world will conquer and become successful after this virus. In many ways, I believe that this has taken a toll on our world, but I also believe that this has done nothing but bettered our world for the future. When I am older, I hope our technology improves greatly and we find better and efficient ways to solve problems like these. Through this experience, I have felt many different ways. I have felt scared, stressed, sadness, and sometimes even happiness. With vaccines coming out and being tested, I hope that our world can find a new normal soon, and this craziness begins to die down eventually in the near time. Hopefully, as I am reading this, our world will have somewhat "Peace" and a brighter time than right now. When I read this, I hope to be where I want to be in life and I hope my education went far. Hopefully, we go back to school next year and I'm hopeful that summer won't be too sad with many restrictions and such. I'm expecting to carry on with life as I would, but being more cautious of my surroundings and who and what I encounter daily. With this being said, I hope in a few months or years, everyone will be healthy again, and life will go on as it used to. To my future self, I hope everything is well and you are living a luxurious life with family and many friends.
From,
Reagan

The Punic war took place in 264 B.C. - 146 B.C. the war was fought between Rome and Carthage. The first war was in 264 B.C. In this war, the naval battles for control of the strategically located island of Sicily. In this war, Rome won. Then, the second punic war took place in 218 B.C. Hannibal almost takes Rome. They attack Rome from the North after crossing Spain and the alps. Then, the last war took place in 149 B.C. In this war, Rome wanted to remove the threat of Carthage. Carthage was burned for 17 days. Many of the people poured into Italy after the burning of the city and many people were stranded. The wars took place in many different locations such as, Sicily, Greece, Italy, and Hispania. The reason these wars started is because the romans wanted an expansion of Sicily, which was under Carthenian control.

Tarquin and his issues

Tarquin seized power like an old tyrant. After many deaths, Tullia finds a way to marry Tarquin. Tullia makes Tarquin sit on the throne and become king. When S.T. objects, Tarquin throws him down the steps and has him assassinated. He then assassinates any senators that object. Then, his son was drinking and forces himself upon Lucretia. She confesses the ordeal to her family but quickly after commits suicide. Soon, people found out and had the whole family expelled from Rome. Now, rule of kings was replaced by consuls. They were elected officials. They were the people who deal with justice, made law, and commanded the army. In 5th century B.C., the patrician dominance of the government was challenged by the plebs and they eventually refused to serve in the military until laws were written out. Now, both the U.S. has an executive, legislative, and judicial branch of government.

Chi cago

After listening to the song, Chi cage is a very good artist. The lyrics taught me is much and they jam in everything about Ancient Greece. I just wish I could've been there to see it happen. The artist singing sounds really experienced and sounds like a popular person. (*wink*) I liked the part "I can hear the brothers Gracchus Sayin, “Rich, please don’t attack us!” It had a nice, smooth feeling to it and it also rhymed. I'm really sad we couldn't have been in school for this because I'msure it would've been a hit among our class and the others.

Twelve tables

The twelve tables were twelve tablets of laws that were written by ten men in 451 B.C., and posted in the forums for everyone to see. before this, laws were put in order but they were not codified and they could change year after year. The twelve tables consisted of some pre existing ideas and new ideas. The laws were formed in assemblies with each class. The laws being passed were private laws for individuals, families, businesses, and small groups. There were also public laws for dealing with issues as a whole, like administration, the constitution, and in crime. Over time, the plebeian class began to fight back for the amount of strict laws they had and soon a group called conflict of the orders was formed.

Ancient Rome Landmarks

Today, we looked at Ancient Rome landmarks. I picked the Trevi fountain. This fountain is on everyones bucket list when they visit Rome. It was designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini. It is 86 feet high and it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Some facts about this fountain is that it is one of the oldest sources of water in Rome. It dates all the way back to 19 B.C. Alos, the fountain is very popular for throwing in coins. When you throw a coin in, it's supposed to make the gods favor you and make sure you get home safely. Last but not least, the statues are Oceanus with two sea horses, representing the different moods of the sea, and two tritons are leading the horses.
