Patricians vs. Plebeians

What were the main differences between Roman patricians and plebeians? What were the Greek versions of patricians and plebeians?

The main differences of the plebeians and the patricians was that the plebeians were the farmers, craftsmen, laborers and soldiers of Rome. They didn't have many rights while the patricians were the people who made the laws and owned the land. Overall, plebeians had some rights and the patricians had many rights. The greek versions of patricians were the aristocrats who worked most of their time, and the greek version of the plebeians was the middle-class who could vote and had more freedom. In all, the plebeians were on the poorer side of the social classes and they lacked a lot of what the patricians had. The patricians were the ones who were privileged and had lots of luxuries.

Greek Architecture

Today in class we researched greek architecture.

The picture below is a greek temple. These were buildings that were surrounded with a row of columns. Above the columns was a decorative panel of sculpture called the frieze and above the frieze was a triangle shaped part with sculptures called the pediment. Inside these temples housed the God or Goddess of the temple.
The picture below is an odeon. this is a building meant for theatrical performances such as singing and such. The theatre has 33 rows of seats that can hold approximately 6,000 people. They were built in a round shape with a MainStage in the front of the seats.

Greek Drama

Today in class, we re read the paragraph about drama.
1. They types of dramas in Greek were comedies and tradgedies. These were plays that either lifted peoples spirits or they pulled people’s spirits down. These were both very popular in the Greek world of drama.
2. My main hobby is theatre. Greeks also had theatre in their era and there is many similarities and differences between now and then. The greeks did comedies and tragedies just like I have done. We have many many more categories of the plays. Also, the greeks did not do musicals which is a very popular type of theatre. The greeks did more serious plays than we do now. Their plays were stories that examined justice and pride. Some plays that we do don't have a true meaning, but they are more for entertainment.
3. This is a Greek theatre. Most of the theatres are outside and they contain seating all the way up the theatre. These are amphitheater’s and these are still used in the world today.
